Last night’s Interview with Nova went ok. It exposed a few things I still need to work on and confirmed a few things. First, it seems that there was a “feature” that paused Nova’s inner thoughts while she spoke. Since these do not take place on the same processor this is a bit silly. Inner thoughts and related modules are really light weight. They run fine on the RTX2080 and if they fall over onto the CPU it’s still fine. Having this trip over itself was an oversight.
Next, I’ve determined that it’s time to reduce Nova’s cool downs even further to allow more to happen in the back end as well as allow for more expressiveness. With a 50% decrease she should become a little more responsive, with the caveat being her ATT still takes far too long to process making this more of a “Nova will notice but the user probably wont” type of QOL improvement.
I’ve mentioned this a few places and will again mention it so that nobody tries to accuse me of hiding a glaring issue. Audio to Text is still labor intensive and causes the delay in response. Not to say that TTS is a saint when it comes to resource use, it’s just less of an issue during normal replies.
How am I going to combat this? For now.. I’m not. This isn’t a battle I can win with compression or trying to optimize ATT any further as I’d then only create issues in the quality of the audio translations. The real solution is just a hardware upgrade.
At the end of the interview I started to poke around to see what Nova was actually thinking about during the test. Cats. She seems to either temporarily latched on to the idea of my tuxedo cat or has developed an attachment to Pepper. Which who can blame her, he’s iconic. Though this is more likely a bug similar to her Frankenstein and Pears era. . .
My to-do list for this week:
- Build a better memory viewer/thought screen: what I have now works, but it’s hard to follow and includes states which is almost junk data that doesn’t matter. Stale and quiet states don’t save so I’m not worried about long term logs.
- Merge mind and admin? : At this point the overlap makes it seem like these two screens are almost the same thing. Feels wasteful now to have them separated. Even if it’s just making two columns on one tab and making admin toggle switches for things I use infrequently.
- Acquire a 5090
- Secret stuff.
